Chicken/Turkey Harvesting Workshop

Are you interested in learning how to harvest roosters, meat chickens or turkeys but you’re not quite sure about the best way to do it? In this workshop you will learn all the steps necessary to take your birds from the field to being ready to cook.

Teresa and Javier will guide you step by step through the poultry harvesting process and will provide the equipment needed such as poultry cones, scalding tank and poultry plucker. A limited number of knives will also be available.

This is a rain or shine event in November so make sure to dress warm. If it’s raining we’ll have canopies up.

If you do not currently have a bird to bring, you are still welcome to join and learn the process to be better prepared for your next harvest.

What to bring?

• If you have your own bird(s), please bring ziplock bags for additional parts you would like to keep and a cooler to take your bird(s) home
• Feel free to bring your favorite sharp knife with a blade that is no longer than 6” (boning knife, pocket knife, hunting knife).
• Rubber boots or waterproof boots/shoes
• Rain pants or bibs
• Optional: Latex gloves

About the Instructors

Teresa and Javier are passionate about raising and harvesting animals to provide quality meat for their families. Between the two they have processed hundreds of birds and various other animals for food.
